iPhone 12 Series Board Issues

Apple’s iPhone 12 Series was a big shift in design, not only externally, with the return to form flat edges not unlike the iPhone 5 series, but also internally as well.

The 12’s motherboard design, affectionally called the “sandwich board” design, is a process in which two separate boards are fused together and connected, saving internal space to allow benefits such as a larger battery, bigger vibration motors, and more. All of these some to only be pro’s in Apple’s favor, however, this series of phones has had a common issue appear that has plagued many a user of this iPhone series, board separation.

Be clear, this is not an issue with the 12 series alone, many other iPhones can have this issue occur as well. It just seems that for whatever reason this lineup of devices was not as well put together. Board separation can cause a multitude of problems, namely the “No Service” issue. This problem causes the phone to no longer detect the modem of the device and service connection is no longer available. In order to repair this problem, an expert must open the device and carefully remove the motherboard from the housing. Once the board is out, the tech will then begin solder work to get the board to once again detect and receive service.

This level of repair is very advanced and requires technicians to be careful careful with the delicate components located on the board. Here at Rave Repairs we provide board level repairs such as this. Please reach out if you would like our team to tackle this problem for you!
