PS5 Fragile HDMI Ports

It’s no secret that Sony’s latest home console has been a hot item for the past two years. Even today you’ll be hard pressed to even set your eyes on this system at any store since most are immediately purchased as soon as they hit the shelves. As repair techs however, we tend to see these come into our shops often for an issue plaguing this generation Sony console. Fragile HDMI ports.

Yes, it seems that the new(ish) Playstation 5 has been struck with a massive rate of HDMI failures. The HDMI port is essential to the console booting properly too, as the system cannot boot without detecting a signal to your TV or Monitor. Thus, many experience the “White Light Of Death” (though this could also be caused by other factors as well). Sony’s previous console, the Playstation 4, also could not boot properly without a proper signal, so that quirk was passed over to the new generation as well. This time however, it seems the HDMI that is used in the PS5 is a lot more susceptible to breakage and bends to the HDMI casing. This results in either a very loose connection, or no proper connection at all.

HDMI port repairs require micro soldering work to repair. This also means removing over 60 (yes, we counted) screws in order to just remove the board from the system itself. The repair should NOT be attempted by anyone without proper training. Even the slightest error would result in damage to the small and fragile components within the console. We always suggest taking this console to be repaired properly as to not damage it any further.
